Small pleasures, small treasures!  That’s what you can expect as nearly 30 young aspirants burst in with their opening number, trudging in their worn workhouse wear and launch into Food Glorious Food with a zest that is far from evident on their meal table.   It’s the Hard Knock Life, indeed as this montage, taken from Broadway musicals involving little ones inspires hope and possibility in the face of gloominess.

 ANGELA KERRISON

 IN

CONCERT AT MAITISONG

SUNDAY 13 DECEMBER 2009.

                  Angela Kerrison, who is currently based in Switzerland, will be giving a solo concert at Maitisong on Sunday 13 December 2009 at 7.30p.m. Tickets at P150.00 include a cheese & wine after party.

                       Angela Kerrison, born in Ramotswa, studied Opera Performance in Cape Town and was named Botswana Musician of the Year in 2005. She was awarded and sang the role of Zerlina in the International Don Giovanni competition in Verona. Italy in the same year, and from 2006-2008 was a member of the International Opera Studio at the Zurich Opera House.

                       In March 2007 she was a finalist in the ‘La Voce’ song competition in Ansbach, Germany. Later that year she sang the role of Pamina in the Magic Flute in Cape Town and Johannesburg, directed by William Kentridge.

                        In June 2008 she was a finalist in  ‘Le Concours International d’Art Lyrique in Strasburg, France.

                         In 2008-2009, for Heidelberg Opera, she also sang & performed the roles of another Servilia this time in Mozart’s opera Titus as well as the role of Ilia in the opera Idomeneo.

                         Recently the German Theatre Association nominated Angela for a “Der Faust” award, Germany’s most prestigious theatre prize.  Nominated in the category Best Actor/Singer in Musical Theatre, for her performance as Servilia in Heidelberg Opera’s production of Vivaldi’s Tito Manila the Association said the awards in eight categories are to ‘artists whose work is groundbreaking in the German Theatre’. In her nomination citation the jury praised Angela particularly for her strong expressive power and presence.                                     

                         Tickets for the solo recital on Sunday 13 December 2009 are P150.00 each and includes a cheese & wine after party Tickets are available from Maitisong, the Jungle Boutique at the Craft Market and Botsalo Books, Game City.

Dear FRIENDS,
Herewith is the schedule for the Part one courses for the rest of 2009:

The attached flier gives all the relevant details for the courses including timings and fees. Please pass this along to your friends, family, colleagues - anyone who may benefit from these powerful breathing exercises. Feel free to print a copy and stick it up in public places/your offices etc.
 
As of 1st October 2009, Art of Living Botswana has instituted a P300 per annum membership fee which entitles you to the following:
- free kriya follow ups at the centre
- free yoga follow ups at the centre
- one free part1 for repeaters per year
- discount on all advanced courses held in Botswana (Part 2 & DSN)
It really is a great deal - please take advantage of it!
 
The weekly schedule of events at the centre is as follows:
- Saturdays - 6.30-8am Long kriya follow ups - open to all those who have completed P1 course
- Sundays - 6-7pm Satsang - group singing followed by meditation - amazing energy!
- Mondays - 6-7.30pm Long kriya follow ups - for those who prefer a lie-in on Sat mornings!! ;)
- Wednesdays - 6-7pm Yoga follow ups
 

As you are aware already - all the funds we raise go towards community service projects. This year, as for the past few years, we linked up globally with the United Nations for their Stand Up Campaign - this year the theme is to Speed UP attainment of the MDGs - with particular focus on (1) Eradication of extreme hunger & poverty (2) Universal Primary Education (3) Environmental Sustainability.
 
On Saturday 10 October, a food camp was held for over 100 orphans at Mmopane Village under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Church and AOL volunteers were blessed enough to spend an afternoon of fun, laughter and games with these angels! Another food camp in another village is organised for 17 Oct. Please feel free to donate food hampers - non perishable food items of minimum value of P25 - to be donated to these orphans and their extended families on 17 Oct. Also, if you feel like a divine experience - join the AOL volunteer team that will spend a few hours with the kids this Saturday - what better way to spend a day than bringing a smile to a child's face?  Please phone me on 73236140 or Savita on 71472879

We are having MEGA LONG KRIYA SESSION this coming Saturday 17th Oct, Morning  6.30 - 8am At The AOL Centre ( Near Thornhill school).  We invite you all to come and attend this session for the Humble Cause - "A Stand up Pledge to Take action against Poverty & Hunger".
 
Finally - the Art of Living will be launching one of its main projects  - the Child Nest Day Care Centre - in the new year. For this, please find attached an advert calling for applications from people interested in applying for the post of Head Teacher. Please circulate this to all those you think might be interested or qualify for the post. Art of Living aims to make the day care centre a centre of excellence where the children are moulded to not only be able to compete to enter the best primary schools but also to become complete, rounded, dynamic human beings. A proportion of the intake will be on a full scholarship basis open to disadvantaged communities.
