PRESS RELEASE
Get ready for "La Fête de la Musique" 2009 !
The Alliance Française hosted the "La Fête de la Musique 2009" (“International Music Day) in Gaborone on Saturday 20 June with main attractions performing at Botswana Craft (Eastern by-pass) from 3.00pm ‘til late.
“La Fête de la musique" is a worldwide annual event which has been celebrated in France since 1982. On that day, both amateur and professional musicians invade the streets, courtyards, gardens… and let the music out.
This celebration has become very popular especially because musicians from any background are allowed to play in various designated places for the whole day. Furthermore, people do not have to pay to watch the concerts that are taking place in their city.
La Fête de la Musique is now celebrated in more than 100 countries around the world.
The Alliance Française de Gaborone has been bringing this celebration to Botswana for several years, each time trying to expand on the previous year’s edition. It is an occasion for all local musicians to showcase their talent to the general public and can serve as a kick-start to their career.
This year it included all styles of music (from traditional to rock, jazz, hip-hop, world, blues…) featuring the best Botswana has to offer : Maxy, Hellen, Dikakapa, Kabo Lebugu, Mogwana, My African Dream, Apollo Diablo, SMS Blues Band, Skinflint, Crackdust, Zing-Zong, Mogote group... performing throughout the day and night.
Entrance was free UPON PRESENTATION OF THE FLYER, available at Alliance Française de Gaborone (Mobuto Drive – Opposite UB, pedestrian gate) or at Botswana Craft (Eastern by-pass) or at Maitisong (Maru-a-pula school).
