GABORONE FILM SOCIETY

Tuesday August 23         A Single Man (2009) USA —Tom Ford
Colin Firth got a BAFTA for his role as a lonely and grieving Stanford University professor in California, who lost the love of his life after sixteen years. He won an Oscar 2011 as “Best Actor” (King’s Speech). A Single Man is an intelligent film, with thoughtful dialogue and brilliant acting by an excellent cast. Tom Ford, in his first cinematic venture, both directed and wrote the script with David Scearce. This is the kind of film Hollywood, with all its resources and talent, should be producing; instead it is left to an independent company to bring it to us. Ford is from Texas and was only three-years old when Christopher Isherwood’s novel, A Single Man, came out. Ford brings to this film the thrill of discovery. 109 minutes. Rated 12+.
