Aldo Brincat, the current HOD of Drama at Maitisong, Maruapula, is no stranger to our stage and in fact, has garnered quite a following with his inspired and wonderful productions.

First there was the reworking of the South African classic, Sarafina. The show which was essentially a school production- rand for an unprecedented 2 weeks, playing to capacity houses and being on record as the largest grossing school production in the history of Gaborone, if not Botswana.

Next came Twenty Thebe Love- a hard hitting and delightful look at the pain and joy of teenage love.

In 2008, Aldo took his brand new play - also a school project- Say It Isn't So- to New York, Connecticut and Boston along with the school marimbas as part of a fund raising effort for Maurapula. The play, focused on an Aids orphan, befriended by a middle class family while on a family vacation. The script was hard hitting and precise- reducing many American audiences to tears!

Last year Aldo designed and created a production entitled Circus of Dreams or Diserekisi Tsa Di Thoro- a whimsical non verbal production modeled on the inspirational Canadian circus, Cirque du Soleile... The results were enchanting to say the least!

This year

Aldo creates something for Gaborone- from Gaborone.

Love and Death on Kgale Hill.

A piece of musical theatre the production is not strictly a musical. Rather, its a play that borrows music from the global market of pop music. The concept is also borrowed from Bizet's Carmen, the most prolifically reproduced opera in history.

love and Death on Kgale Hill, follows the lives of 3 Maruaplula Students: Maria, a feisty young lady who opens her own hair dressing salon in African Mall- Seretse, a passionate rapper who scores a scholarship to Harvard and Karabo, a local young man who signs onto the BDF for a career as a soldier... As with Bizet's Carmen, a love triangle ensues...

Boasting an impressive cast and choreography, the set is highly creative and imaginative. This production is charming and unusual in its choice of local characters and stereotypes... It should go along way to garnering a good healthy following...
