Ntirelang Berman has been a consistent force in Botswana’s folklore music and has in the past taken this music globally as shown by his invitations to perform in Germany, China, Japan and  Canada , just to mention a few. Ntirelang was also part of the My African Dream Talent Search in its formative years. Ntirelang Berman has released a key folklore album ( MALOBA) that won Best Folklore award at the second Botswana Music Union Awards.

Folklore music, while being the bone and the key to sustain Botswana’s musical past, has not received great patronage because it has not been marketed and made available to the greater audiences. Mostly,  folk musicians perform at shebeens and or bask in the streets denying the music the dignity and audience it deserves.

Bermans Acoustics – The show

As part of this years Festival , Maitisong is proud to include a one man concert  called Berman’s Acoustics at the Little Theatre at the Museum

Berman’s Acoustics is a 45 minute one man show that delivers the rich taste of Botswana’s Folklore Music in its variations. The performance will showcase Botswana’s folk 4 and 5 string guitars on different tunings. The 6 string guitar will be on a standard tuning.

The music featured at the show will include vocals done in a Tswana Folk tradition and will feature poetry, harmonica and whistle. There will be English narration and the show will close with a 10 minute Audience / Performer open stage session of questions and

answers.
