Boitumelo Mpito Pilane – Opera singer (soprano)
Boitumelo hails from Mochudi and was born on 19th April 1975. She has always liked singing since she was young and sang in Church choirs which are where she discovered her musical talent. In January 2000 she joined the KTM Choir where her talent as a soprano was developed under the mentorship of Gomolemo Motswaledi.
In 2002 Boitumelo developed an interest in the opera world and trained as a Soprano Solo with David Slater of Maitisong. She has performed at several Presidents’ concerts, Maitisong Festivals, BIFM concerts with the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra. She has performed alongside Sibongile Khumalo and Angela Kerrison at one of the Maitisong Festivals. She is also a regular guest soloist for BC Orchestra in Soweto (RSA).
She played the role of Sophia in the musical “Orphans of Qumbu” with Thornhill Primary School Choir and Faith Klein in 2005.
Boitumelo is the 2006 My African Dream (MAD) winner in the Senior Category where she performed “Time to Say Goodbye.” She also accompanied the Botswana Defense Force Band (BDF Band) in November /December 2006 during their countrywide tour as a guest artist.
