8.   Biography

Tshepiso Molapisi is young Motswana man born to a single mother Mmmemme Molapisi in 1982 on the 1st of February. Born in marina hospital in Gaborone, Tshepiso partly grow up in Francis town before coming back to his birth city Gaborone to complete his primary education.  Born to a very musical mother, who was a musician herself, Kast fell in love with music at a very tender age.  It was finally at the age of 14, he decide to form a hip-hop group with his cousin called Mac-o-T.  Under the guidance of an established female hip-hop artist Mac-o-T was affiliated to what was the biggest hip-hop crew at the time “p-side”.  Mac-o-T went on to win twice in a row an annual hip-hop competition in 1998 and 1999.

1999 saw the realize of the p-side hip-hop compilation under the leadership and direction of Dj Sid.  Mac-o-T had two tracks in the compilation which quickly built a name for them within local music cycles.  During this time Kast formed a music crew called Mac squad which the likes of Scar and Vee where a part of.  After completing high school he than worked as a production assistant at the popular youth radio station Yarona FM. Driven by his love for music Kast started a event management company and record label called Kastalion Entertainment Promotions. The company enrolled the likes of Vee, Mosako, H.T, Exodus, twiz etc.

2002 Kast recorded and promoted a radio single called “ntsha nkgo”.  This track quickly branded Kast as a solo artist.  This got him a recording deal under a bigger record company.  2003 he realized a full album under So-Hype records called The Curse.  Kast quickly grew into a household name and a major agent of popular youth culture.  The curse was arguably the first local hiphop album to achieve national popularity beyond the urban centre to even the most rural areas in the country.  This album had three singles that made it to number one on local radio top 20 chat, and even one single on a Lesotho radio chat. 

Two years later 2005, Kast got an offer from the country’s biggest record company Ramco Records. 2006, saw the realize of his current album “daz it”.  Daz it was an unprecedented success selling over ten thousand copies a few weeks after realize. Four singles made it to the top 20 chat with two reaching number one.  Kast’s second album had one of the most successful national launch tours, reaching over 15 areas in the country.  Daz it saw Kast invited twice for interview on channel O, with a music video making it to its top 10.  In 2007 Kast conceptualized and registered the Kast Foundation.  The Kast foundation is a non-governmental organization that uses music, the arts and edutainment as the main agents of change, aimed towards fighting social ills.
