ARTISTS RESIDENCY MAURITIUS

pARTage Arts Residency 2010 MAURITIUS

pARTage is a recognized association of Mauritian artists which has been active in the promotion of art both in the local scene and internationally.

Applications are now being considered for the 2010 pARTage Arts Residency, a 6-week residency from 17th Marchst to 23 April 2010. We are looking for dynamic individuals from the African Continent mainly working in ceramic or fiber glass sculpture.

pARTage’s art residency program aims to support artists in the development of their artistic practice and ideas, offering them an opportunity to live and work in Mauritius. This residency will act as a stimulus to bring to our island a small panorama of contemporary new media used in art making, while also facilitating cultural exchange and creative dialogue in an attempt to solidify the existing international artistic network that pARTage has endeavored itself to build through the Triangle Arts trust network. Artists can work on their own during the residency, or collaborate with each other. However we would want artists to respond to their individual experiences of the island in their works.

Selected artists will be provided with self catering accommodation, stipend for food and inland transport. Some basic materials will be provided. However artists do not receive any kind of payment for their participation in the residency. Artists have to pay for their airfare. Application can be made to AMA which supports travelling for African artists.

The residency will include educational activities including demonstration, talks and presentations to students, other artists and the general public.

Towards the end of the residency, artists will be required to hold an open studio day or an exhibition.

This is the follow up workshop which was organized by Thapong and Barclays in 2008. The workshop is open for artist in and around Francistown.   Thapong has realized that there is a need to impact creative skill amongst artists in the north.
