Patrick Stewart’s Macbeth Free Shakespeare Film Screening
The critically acclaimed production of ‘Macbeth’, starring Patrick Stewart, has been announced as the first in the GREAT Campaign and British Council ‘Shakespeare o a Tshela’ free Shakespeare film screening series at Maitisong, part of the Shakespeare Lives project. The film will screen on the big screen in Maitisong at 5pm on Sunday, December 13th.
Rupert Goold’s production, inspired by the oppresive and brutal Stalinist era in the Soviet Union, stars Patrick Stewart as the tyrannical Macbeth and Kate Fleetwood as his murderous wife. The UK Daily Telegraph theatre critic Charles Spencer described the production as “brilliantly inventive” and “heart-stoppingly scary”, ranking it as the best Macbeth he had seen. The London Evening Standard was equally effusive in its praise, calling it “the Macbeth of a lifetime”.
